Weathering Steel is designed to rust on its outer layer but does not penetrate deeper into the steel once the rust has formed. The surface layer of rust acts as a barrier and actually protects the steel from further corrosion allowing only the top layers of the metal to develop an earthy rust patina while maintaining the structural integrity of the material. As a result, weathering steel is commonly used in outdoor applications or environments where normal steel would be inclined to rust and degrade. While it is a superior outdoor steel product, it is not impervious to constant salt exposure near a coastline or in standing water. If you need a cage for a high salt, humidity environments we would suggest one of our Stainless Steel Coast GuardShacks™ instead.

The CORTEN enclosures are skinned with weathered steel sheet metal and feature our signature rounded design which provides both superior strength and safety over square cages, without any sharp corners.

For added security they come standard with Lock Shield Brackets which protect the locks against bolt cutters.
